Finishing her diploma in Counselling Skills, Sarah Armstrong is offering free counselling sessions.
These sessions focus on somatic therapies.
I have over 25 years of experience in Registered Massage Therapy and have noticed over the years how mental health and nervous system health are all intertwined within the health of our bodies. When we can take the time to sit in the body, and notice the subtleties, there is a natural intelligence that begins to emerge and become a part of the process of healing.
The past three years I have enrolled in extensive studies such as Somatic Experiencing (Intermediate level), M.A.B.T. (Mindful Awareness in Body-oriented Therapy), as well as the Counselling Skills Diploma.
I need to complete 300 practicum hours in order to achieve graduation. Anonymity will be the protocol, but I will need to submit treatment notes to my professor in order to review and critique the sessions.
While I believe I can be most effective in the realm of counselling relating to the body, such as chronic pain, car accidents, trauma or anxieties related to surgeries or injuries, and other trauma to the body, I am able and trained to help people hold space and provide encouragement regarding overall mental health.
For example, if you, or know of someone that struggles with anxiety around driving after they had been in a car accient, or after they have had a fall or injury. If after a surgical procedure one hasn't felt quite right, or having anxities about an upcoming health journey.
There may be a protective response the body is holding onto in order to provide a sense of safety. Sometimes, when moving through this, the body, mind and nervous system are able to work together to allow the trauma to move through, releasing the hold of protection and anxiety, allowing balance to be practiced and restored.
